In December 2024, the Institute of Early Childhood Development (IECD) held its annual high tea gathering, hosted by the CEO, Shirley Choppy. The event brought together staff members to celebrate their hard work and dedication, while highlighting the achievements of exemplary employees.

Marie France Barra, the Director of Research, Data Management, and Knowledge Production, was honored with the title of “Best Performer in Senior Management.” Her exceptional contributions in implementing the organization’s strategic plan earned her this accolade. Barra played a pivotal role in coordinating the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the National Action Plan (NAP) for Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) for 2023-2024, which included 16 impactful projects. She also led two significant research initiatives assessing early learning readiness among children aged 3 to 4 years in both registered and unregistered childcare services, as well as evaluations across state crèches and private pre-schools conducted in October and November 2024.

Maria Emmanuel, the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, received the “Best Effort” award for demonstrating notable progress since her last performance appraisal. Maria has made significant strides in her professional development, contributing to the organization through a consolidated Directory for Home-Based Child Care Services in Seychelles, developing fire drill and evacuation training videos, and featuring in the United Nations’ “54 Faces of Africa” campaign. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Education with Honors in Early Childhood Education and Care at the Open University of Mauritius.
