What is PRESET?

IECD has the mandate to engage persons with expertise in the field of ECCE to provide training and professional development for registered and prospective Childminders. The Pre-Registration, Sensitization and Training Programme is a training based on the 10 National Standards for home-based child care services. The training has been running since 2016 and this will be the 13th group of participants.  It is a minimum requirement for any person who wishes to register and offer a home-based child care service.

The training is implemented by IECD in collaboration with ECCE Sectors and key external partners and the sessions run for 9 consecutive Saturdays. The main objective of the training is to build capacity of home-based Childminders in the implementation of the requirements of the IECD (National Standards for Childminding Regulations) 2016.

What does it consist?

The sessions are focused on the 10 National Standards being

  • – Child Rights & Protection
  • – Family and Community Engagement
  • – Nutrition
  • – Early learning
  • – Interaction
  • – Administration
  • – Safety
  • – Physical Environment
  • – Staffing

Expert representatives from IECD, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Youth, Sport and Family Affairs, Ministry of Employment and Social Affairs, Seychelles Fire Rescue and Services Agency and Other External partners facilitate the Sessions. The sessions are participatory, providing participants with hands-on experiences for the implementation of the standards in their child care services.

Who can Register?

  • – Those taking care of children but not yet enrolled on this programme to register with IECD.
  • – Individuals interested to have their own home-based child care services in the future.
  • – Assistant childminder who wish to have more knowledge and skills in this field
  • – Unregistered Childminders who have undergone the training prior to 2022 and are required to follow a refresher.
