Parents on MahĂ©, Praslin, and La Digue seeking qualified, reliable, and trustworthy child care options in their vicinity can now access the newly published “Directory for Home-Based Registered Child Care Services” by the IECD (Institute for Early Childhood Development). This first vibrant 44-page document showcases 79 registered child care services across the country.
The directory features photographs of the childminders in their settings, along with contact information, the regions they serve, and the specific services they offer that support children’s learning and development. Project Officer Maria Emmanuel, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer for the Home-Based Child Care section, led this project over the past year.
In the past, individual directories were maintained for each region, but this new online publication consolidates all information into one comprehensive document, which is accessible through the IECD website at www.iecd.gov.sc.
The IECD aims to enhance access to registered home-based child care services across the main islands while providing up-to-date information for parents and the community about available child care options.
The official launch of the directory took place on Friday, August 2, 2024, at the Savoy Resort and Spa. The ceremony also recognized 43 individuals who successfully completed the Pre-Registration & Sensitisation Training Programmes organized by the IECD this year. The event was attended by participants and their families, along with key figures from the early childhood care and education (ECCE) sector, including Minister for Education Dr. Justin Valentin and CEO Shirley Choppy, among other high-ranking government officials.
The launch of this directory marks a significant advancement in supporting families and promoting quality early childhood care in Seychelles.
