In an effort to reinforce their partnership, representatives of the IECD UNESCO Category 2 Institute, Seychelles Revenue Commission (SRC), and the Ministry of Finance, National Planning and Trade came together on Tuesday, January 23rd, 2024. The meeting, which took place at the IECD office in Fairview House, Ile Perseverance, proved to be a productive gathering.
During this gathering, representatives from the SRC and the Ministry of Finance engaged in meaningful dialogue with Captain David Savy, the Chairman of the IECD local board, and Mrs. Shirley Choppy, the Chief Executive Officer. The focus of the meeting centered around identifying areas of collaboration with the institute, as it acts as the regulatory body for childcare services in the country.
The significance of investing in children during their early years was underscored by the CEO. Recognizing it as a long-term strategy with promising economic returns, she emphasized the importance of providing proper care and support to young children. This investment not only benefits the children themselves but also has a positive impact on society as a whole.
To further enhance their collaboration, the three organizations explored ways in which they could mutually support each other in fulfilling their respective mandates. The commitment displayed by the three parties was evident as they pledged to collaborate in collecting vital information about childcare services and providers, particularly registered childminders. Sharing this information, including statistical data, among partners would prove invaluable in shaping effective policies within the sector.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with all parties expressing their enthusiasm for the future collaboration and partnerships. By joining forces, the IECD, SRC, and the Ministry of Finance embark on a mission to ensure the provision of top-quality childcare services in the Seychelles. It is anticipated that these partnerships will contribute significantly to the betterment of the country’s early childhood sector and the overall growth and development of its young population.
